ARLINGTON SPECIAL ELECTION: Choose Chanda on May 5th
* * *
Arlington Democrats and Neighbors,
I ask you to make history today.
Make history for the Democratic Party. Make history for Arlington County.
My nomination as your chosen candidate will energize current voters and electrify new voters. Remember, we’ve got to expand the electorate; not just to keep Arlington blue, but to keep Virginia blue and to win the White House. Our votes in Northern Virginia provide the statewide victory margin for the Governor’s race and for the Electoral College.
I understand that some folks have questions about how much experience is required. But I would not be the youngest board member ever elected, and I’ve lived in Arlington as long or longer than others as well. I’ve checked off more boxes than the normal person:
- Vice President of my neighborhood civic association the past three years
- A member, board director, or participant of a long list of community and service organizations
- Boots on the ground knocking doors for Hillary Clinton in 2016, Virginia House of Delegates candidates in 2017, and Virginia Congressional candidates in 2018
- Almost 15 years of service in the US Army Reserve, including a Middle East deployment
- Small business co-owner of a cybersecurity solutions company
If we always go with our own definition of experience or favor the physical neighbors we see, we will never achieve true diversity and inclusion.
Throughout the past few years, I’ve had Arlingtonians come up to me from various backgrounds: Mongolian, Ethiopian, Peruvian, Ukrainian, military veterans, and working class folks. They tell me how so inspired they are to see me on the political stage.
But I’ve also met people who don’t live in Arlington anymore; or people who still live here, but feel that they don’t belong. Let’s send them a message. Let’s send anti-progressive Republicans and Trumpists that all are welcome; that all have a shot to — yes — be your next Arlington County Board Member.
Choose me as your #1 choice on May 5th. Thank you and God Bless.
Note: the Arlington Democratic nomination process starting May 5th for the County Board Special Election is unfortunately very quick, and the only people allowed to vote for now are the perhaps 250 or so Arlington Democratic Party “members of its Steering Committee and County Committee, which consist of elected party officials (including Precinct Captains), appointed party officials (including Precinct Leaders and Arlington Young Democrats officers), and Democratic elected officials who reside in Arlington.”
If you are one of the identified Arlington Democratic party members, please choose me as your #1 choice. If you are not one of the designated members, please reach out to folks you know with a vote and share kind words on my behalf. Thank you all for everything. I have been honored to be part of this public service journey.
